New ADA Law Effective January 1, 2019
AB 3002 (Grayson)

Post

Effective January 1, 2019, last year’s AB 3002 requires local jurisdictions issuing building permits for commercial construction, or business licenses, to make available a notice containing specified information regarding disability access. A model notice was developed by the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and is available online in English. The DSA is currently developing translations in Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Korean, which were required by the bill.

As of this week, the DSA released a notice regarding the requirements of this new law. The notice highlighted AB 3002 and informed readers “The notice is posted to the ‘City and County Offices’ section of the Voluntary Certified Access Specialist (CASp) program webpage. If you have any questions regarding the content, please email dsacommunication@dgs.ca.gov.”

CALBO understands that jurisdictions have their own procedures in place for the implementation of this new law – but we encourage each jurisdiction to confer with their own legal counsel on best practices for local implementation. For more information, please visit the DSA’s webpage. You can also email CALBO’s Government Affairs Manager, Katie Almand.
