What to Expect from your In-Person Attendance?

Welcome to the CALBO Summer Conference and Mini-Education from May 16-21, 2021. Here are some details to help you understand what to expect from your in-person attendance.

We have worked hard with local city, county, and state officials to ensure a safe and responsible experience for you. We can assure you that we will follow all governmental guidelines and mandates and are in full compliance with current health regulations.  

  • Programming and Course Dates - The 2021 CALBO Summer Conference and Mini-Education will be broadcasted live from the Newport Beach Marriott from Monday, May 17 – Friday, May 21, 2021. Aside from association business, the rest of the traditional conference programming will take place on Monday and Tuesday featuring presentations and panels with the CALBO Board of Directors, CALBO Committee Members, State Agencies, and leading experts in Building-Safety. Mini-Education Week Wednesday-Friday courses will be taught by a skilled and knowledgeable CALBO Training Institute subject matter experts. Please consult your program for the detailed schedule.
  • Golf Tournament - For those who want to arrive early in Newport and catch-up with old friends and colleagues before the conference kicks off, please consider registering for CALBO’s Annual Golf Classic Tournament sponsored by 4LEAF, Inc on Sunday, May 16. This year’s tournament will take place at local favorite Strawberry Farms Golf Club with a shotgun tee off at 1:00pm.  Registration is available on the CALBO Summer Conference and Mini-Education Week online registration page.

  • Registration - Registration is currently open. Please check www.calbo.org for a complete program and course schedule. New registrations and transfers from the 2020 Annual Business Meeting will be accepted until Monday, May 10 at 5:00pm. Please note that this is a firm deadline – no exceptions can be made.

  • Health Questionnaire - Each attendee will receive a health questionnaire that must be submitted to CALBO prior to their arrival onsite at the hotel. To ensure the safety of all, an attendee’s badge will be held until their questionnaire is submitted with their signature. No exceptions can be made.

  • The Day Prior to each Course - Along with the health questionnaire, each attendee will receive a personalized link the day before each Mini-Education Week Wednesday-Friday course to download instructional materials. There will be no materials to download for the Monday and Tuesday programming. Printed materials will not be provided to attendees. Tablets, laptops and personal electronic devices are highly encouraged. Internet will be available during the program sessions and courses.

  • The Day of each Program Session or Course - Attendees may arrive at the Newport Beach Marriott any time after 7:30am each day. Masks will be required for everyone for the entire duration at the hotel. Please consult the conference program for the daily schedule and CALBO Registration Booth hours.

  • Venue Guidelines - We have all become accustomed to government imposed health and safety guidelines, which will be strictly followed at the CALBO Summer Conference and Mini-Education Week. The hotel will provide hand-sanitizer throughout the property for easy access, and masks will be required for everyone at all times.

  • Program Sessions and Classrooms - All attendees will be asked to select a seat for each program session and classroom each day, which will follow social distancing guidelines away from others. Once a seat is selected, please plan to stay in that seat throughout sessions and/or course for that day.

  • Breaks - There will be plenty of breaks to ensure your ability to stretch, regain focus, and network with your peers. Please consult your program for the daily break times.

  • Meals - Meals will be furnished for all attendees, including morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch. Meal offerings will be based on government imposed health and safety guidelines. Please review the conference program for detailed lunch programming, including CALBO’s Mask-A-Rade Luncheon.

  • Course Attendance Certificate - Each attendee who attends Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday course(s) will receive a certificate of course completion electronically, which is also printable, within 24 hours of each course. Each course is approved by the ICC Preferred Provider Program and most courses are approved by American Institute for Architects. Please check the CALBO website for specific course information. For six-hour courses, .6 CEUs will be granted. Attendees must be present for the entire duration of the course to receive credit.

  • Evaluations - Every attendee who attends Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday course(s) will receive a link to complete an online course and instructor evaluation to ensure that the CALBO Mini-Education Week has met your expectations.

  • Parking - All attendees at Education Week Newport Beach will receive complementary day use parking. Those who wish to stay overnight in the hotel will be required to pay discounted overnight parking charges of $15.00 for self-parking and $25.00 for valet parking.

  • Hotel Reservations - The CALBO room block rate is $159.00 plus tax per night with no resort fee. Our discounted group rates are available first-come, first-served with a deadline of April 26 or until at capacity. Click for the hotel reservation.

  • May I attend virtually? Yes! CALBO is offering a fully virtual CALBO Summer Conference and Mini-Education Week. The virtual option is a live broadcast of all program sessions and courses. What to Expect from your Virtual Attendance?

Even if you can’t join us in-person, we hope you’ll consider this virtual option to reconnect with your peers and gain practical knowledge about vital topics affecting the Building-Safety Community.

  • The Day of each Session or Course - You may use your unique link to enter your session programs or course each day at any time after 7:30am. Audio and visual can be accessed with the link. Please consult the conference program for the daily schedule.

  • Breaks & Lunch - There will be plenty of breaks to ensure your ability to leave your computer, stretch and regain focus. Please consult the conference program for the daily break times. You do not need to logout during breaks.

  • Virtual Experience - CALBO has invested in production resources to ensure your experience at our Virtual Summer Conference and Mini-Education Week are second to none. Conference program sessions on Monday and Tuesday will be broadcasted live. Mini-Education Week on Wednesday-Friday courses will be taught live with an additional subject matter expert in the classroom to work with our virtual attendees in real time. Attendees may pose questions through the chat and conversation functions of the course and expect to receive a response in real time.  This is not a canned experience.

  • What is not being broadcast virtually? CALBO has worked hard to ensure that the virtual experience is second-to-none, affording those who are unable or unwilling to travel at this time with a stellar professional development opportunity.  All sessions, panels, programs and courses WILL be broadcast virtually.  Additionally, the lunches for each day will also be broadcast given their associated programming.  The exhibitor space, in addition to after-hours activities will not be available to virtual attendees.

  • Attendance Certificate - Each attendee who attends Mini-Education Week Wednesday-Friday courses will receive their attendance certificates electronically, which are also printable, within 48 hours of each course. Each course is approved by the ICC Preferred Provider Program and most courses are approved by American Institute for Architects. Please check our website for specific course information. For six-hour courses, .6 CEUs will be granted. Attendees must be logged into and attend the course for the entire duration to receive credit.

  • Evaluations - Every attendee attending a Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday course will receive a link to complete an online course and instructor evaluation to ensure that the CALBO Mini-Education Week has met your expectations.
