CALBO Legislative Briefing – May 2025
OnDemand Video Presentation

E-mail blast

In this month’s OnDemand video briefing, CALBO Executive Director Matthew Wheeler, DPPD, provided an update on key California legislative bills affecting building departments. He noted that AB 306, which would freeze residential building standards for six years, remains opposed by CALBO despite recent amendments. Bills AB 253, AB 1206, and AB 750 continue to move forward, with CALBO expressing concerns about third-party plan checks and pre-approved plans. Meanwhile, AB 339, AB 6, and AB 389 remain pending. AB 557 was amended to preserve local inspection authority, allowing CALBO to shift from opposition to a neutral position.

Matthew also shared highlights from recent advocacy efforts in Sacramento and announced upcoming CALBO training opportunities across the state.

Further details on CALBO’s Bills of Interest are available in real-time on CALBO’s Legislative webpage.
