Description: This webinar, presented by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), focuses on applying the 2025 California Building Code (CBC) Chapter 11A requirements to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) using real-world scenarios. Topics include a brief introduction to federal and state accessibility laws, specifically the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Act (FHA), explaining how Chapter 11A is based on FHA requirements and Chapter 11B aligns with ADA standards. The instructor will also touch on relevant Government Codes and HCD’s authority in implementing these provisions. Emphasis is placed on practical interpretation and application of Chapter 11A provisions as they relate to ADU design. Building officials, accessibility plan reviewers, inspectors, designers, architects, and contractors will benefit from this webinar by gaining a better understanding of how accessibility requirements apply to housing as ADU development continues to expand statewide.
