Description: Battery Energy Storage Systems
(BESS) and modern data centers are transforming the built
environment and creating new challenges for building and fire
code officials. As demand for grid resiliency, renewable energy
integration, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence
infrastructure continues to grow, local jurisdictions are
increasingly being asked to review complex projects involving
lithium-ion batteries, emergency power systems, energy storage
installations, and mission-critical facilities.
This two-hour webinar provides California building department
personnel with a practical overview of the codes, standards, and
design considerations commonly encountered during the permitting
and plan review process. Participants learn how the California
Building Code, California Fire Code, NFPA 855, UL 9540, and UL
9540A influence project design and approval, and how these
requirements are applied to battery energy storage systems and
data center facilities.
Through real-world examples and case studies, attendees gain a
better understanding of common plan review issues, fire and life
safety concerns, hazard mitigation strategies, emergency
responder considerations, and coordination between building and
fire departments.
Audience: Building Officials, Plan Reviewers, Fire Prevention Personnel, Permit Technicians, and Building Inspectors
