This webinar provides a practical regulatory overview on how intermodal shipping containers are being repurposed as buildings or structures or as components of buildings or structures. Attendees learn of the different regulations and standards for the manufacturing and construction of containers, including the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) requirements for containers. Discussion covers the basic design and construction of containers, how the requirements were developed, simplified structural design parameters for single-story containers, other design and constructability issues to consider, and more. Frequently asked questions and topics are covered to help clarify the intent of the 2021 IBC and its applicability to containers. Questions and answers are encouraged for this overview webinar. The primary attendee learning objective is to understand the basic requirements pertaining to container construction, relevant and applicable requirements of the 2021 International Building Code for repurposing containers, and highlight the items of highest value for plans examination and inspection purposes.
