E-mail blast

An important EOC training/exercise opportunity will occur on September 6, 2018. Please call your Emergency Operations Manager and ask them to include you in this Urban Shield/Yellow Command Regional earthquake EOC exercise.

This is an excellent opportunity for local Building Officials to learn more about catastrophic earthquake response and demonstrate the critical role that building officials and building department staff will play in a catastrophic, damaging incident.

Each year the Bay Area Urban Area Security Initiative conducts its Urban Shield/Yellow Command exercise, which engages EOC staff from participating agencies in a region-wide exercise simulating response to a major emergency. The BAUASI includes the Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma county Operational Areas. This year’s Yellow Command will be held on September 6, 2018 and will be focused on providing mass care and shelter in the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake.

As Building Officials, we know that an essential part of providing timely mass care and shelter services is identifying safe facilities through the provision of safety assessments by local building department personnel and SAP program mutual-aid resources.

Several participating jurisdictions are incorporating building department and SAP operations in their exercises. CALBO encourages its Bay Area members to contact their emergency managers and/or operational area EOC to find out how to participate in Yellow Command.
