Structural Safety Committee

The objective of the Structural Safety Committee is to assist CALBO in the application of seismic and structural design and inspection provisions by developing and disseminating guidelines and recommendations for applying and interpreting current codes and for making modifications to current codes when necessary. The Structural Safety Committee meets at the Annual Business Meeting and via conference call, typically four to six times per year.

In line with CALBO’s mission statement and strategic plan, the Structural Safety Committee of CALBO aims to promote education, training, legislative involvement, and code development that strives towards structural safety of buildings and structures. We will commit to building long-term relationships with current and future CALBO members as well as, other stakeholder groups based on mutual trust and respect.

Committee Goals

  1. Complete the review of the Earthquake Authority, FEMA and SEAOC earthquake strengthening of cripple walls in wood framed dwellings.
  2. Develop member advisory information pertaining to the code coverage and gaps for use of cross laminated timber (CLT) products.
  3. Create a seismic resiliency tool kit as a resource for jurisdictions.
